What is a better starter bike for a women?

I am 17 and i am getting my 1st motorcycle this year... I like the Spyder 300 and (i want to one day upgrade to a Honda Shadow 750.)but my friends think I should get the Hunter S softail or Honda Rebel. Yes, I am a beginner but i dont want to start on a 250. any advice???
