Even if you add an extra string, the tunig is still in Drop-D no matter what. It will add some tension on the trem system but as for the twangy sound you are referring to, you will have to raise the bridge slightly on the high string side. That will compensate for the tension. What is happening is that the strings are hitting against the frets.
