DWI from one state, live in another; get a MI license?

I got a DWI a while back in NC, but live in OH. I have been told by some people that if I were to got get a license in Michigan before my case is finished, that NC cannot suspend my MI license, due to MI not honoring the pact that certain states have to share BMV records...any truth?
